If you’ve never been to a winter wedding at Willowdale Estate, you’re going to want to after this!
It feels like just yesterday I met Cassandra for the first time, sipping on sangria, and talking winter wedding plans. As time usually does, the year just flew by. Before I knew it, the big day was here. The week prior, I toured the estate with Amy, venue coordinator at Willowdale, and my head was racing with ideas!
As a photographer in New England winter’s are typically spent hibernating. As someone to who LOVES their job, I was quite ecstatic to dust off my camera’s & get back to it. January in New England can be fickle. The week of their wedding was not quite the winter wonderland I was envisioning. It was 50 degrees! Not to worry my friends, winter showed up just in time, giving us the perfect blanket of white, fluffy, wintery goodness!
Cassandra and Matthew’s intimate ceremony was performed by their pastor at Saint Thomas the Apostle Church Millis, MA.
Both of their families were made up of the kind of people you feel lucky to know. Everyone was incredibly welcoming from the moment I stepped foot in their home, to the time I rolled out the reception doors. Smiles everywhere and happy tears in most everyones eyes. Being a part of families like these, if even just for the day, is something I really love about my job.
Picking a venue is important, and picking a venue appropriate for the time of year you’re getting married is even more important. Queue Willowdale for the perfect winter wedding!
I had been dreaming of shooting a wedding at this beautiful venue since I started my career here on the North Shore. The architectural charm, the beautiful landscape, that red door and not to mention its proximity to my house. Win, win, and win!
One of the biggest thing to remember with winter weddings is the race against sunlight. Unfortunately this time of year is not know for its long evening sunsets. More like, wait, where did the sun go, it’s only 4:00! Even with a bit of traffic (got to love 95!) we made it in time for the most picture perfect golden hour you could ask for. Everywhere these two stood was pure magic. You could feel that they were so blissfully happy to be right where they were, together.
Onto the next!
My 2018 wedding season started on such an incredible high note, I cannot wait to see what the rest of this year has in store. Shay & Sam, you’re next!
